Blender MCP is a Model Context Protocol server that lets an AI agent build and edit scenes in Blender through plain-language instructions. The open-source project is mature, actively maintained and free. ZirenAI does not support Blender, and this page explains that rather than pretending otherwise.
A Blender add-on runs inside Blender and executes operations against the open scene; an MCP server translates an AI client's typed tool calls into those operations. Once connected, you describe what you want — build a scene, generate geometry, apply materials, run a script — and the agent carries it out inside Blender rather than handing you a file.
The best-known implementation is open source and has its own site and documentation. Several forks and commercial packagings exist around it, including paid add-ons offering larger tool sets and asset-library integrations.
Three honest reasons, in order of how much they mattered to the decision.
The open-source option is genuinely good. Our whole argument for SketchUp and Rhino is that setup is painful and we remove that pain. On Blender the open-source project is well documented and widely used, and the people who use Blender are, as a group, comfortable installing an add-on and editing a config file. We would be charging for a problem they do not have.
The paid slot is already occupied. Where Blender users do want a packaged product, there are already commercial ones — one-click installers, large tool sets, subscription tiers. Arriving late with a worse version of that is not a plan.
We would rather finish two things properly. SketchUp and Rhino share a working style — layer and tag discipline, blocks and components, plans that become buildings. Tuning for that is real work, and spreading it across a third application with different conventions would make all three worse.
Start with the open-source Blender MCP project. The add-on costs nothing, it edits the scene you have open, and it works with any MCP-capable client — you bring your own AI client and pay for that. If you outgrow it, the commercial packagings built on top of it are the natural next step.
If you also use SketchUp or Rhino, that is where we can help — and the setup and troubleshooting pages here are written to be useful whether or not you ever pay us.
Possibly. If the open-source route stops being good enough, or if enough people who already use ZirenAI for SketchUp or Rhino ask for Blender in the same client, it becomes worth doing. Until one of those is true, adding it would be a marketing decision rather than a product one.
That is where the setup pain is real and where we have done the work. Both are covered end to end — including the open-source routes, written honestly.
